Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that results in the construction or reconstruction of the vagina. It is a type of genital surgery. Pelvic organ prolapse is often treated with one or more surgeries to repair the vagina. Vaginal surgery is performed to correct congenital defects of the vagina, urethra, and rectum. It can also correct the prolapse of the bladder into the vagina (cystocele) and rectum into the vagina (rectocele). Other candidates for the surgery include: infants born with microphallus, individuals with Mullerian agenesis leading to vaginal hypoplasia, trans women, and women who have undergone vaginectomy after malignancy or trauma.
